Many Thanks

Thanks to everyone who organized, donated and participated in the golf tournament this past Saturday for Walter Jr. There is no way to know and properly thank all of those that were a part of making it a success, but in particular, we would like to thank Kim Goolsby, Kinderlou Forest Golf Club, Walter Romine Sr., John Romine, and the entire extended Romine family for their initiative in bringing the tournament to fruition. Everyone’s efforts to raise money for Walter's ongoing care is both humbling and appreciated. We hope that everyone had a wonderful time and we love you all. We give God all the glory for His continuous mercy and healing of Walter.

The current verse we say everyday with Walter for encouragement and motivation is Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

Priceless Moments

I just wanted to share with everyone a funny story that happened last night over a wonderful Korean dinner by Jiyoung. We hope you enjoy it! Out of the blue at dinner Walter said "I'm a scary monster." My mom, Jiyoung and I said "What?" as we looked at each other puzzled. He said "I'm a scary monster." My mom replied "Walter, did you just say you were a scary monster?" Walter replied "Yeah." I could not hold my laughter in and my mom replied back "I'm scared if you are a monster." Walter said "You should be, rrraaarrrrrr." Then we all busted out laughing including Walter. We beleive when our neice Emma (2 1/2 yrs old who lives in Florida) calls Uncle Wally once or twice a week to tell him she prays to Jesus that he gets better, she misses him, loves him and when is he coming to see her is where he may be getting this from. She of course is prompted by her mom while on the phone to make sheep, bear, horse and other animal sounds. We really have no idea but it made our night and we got a great laugh. So now he knows it's funny so he called me at work today and says "It's the monster rrraaarrrrrr."

Encouraging words

Below are two verses Walter's great aunt Virginia Ann sent me the other day. She has been a huge supporter and always has encouraging words for the both of us. On our rough days it can make all the difference.

My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. ~ 2 Corinthians 12:9

But in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. ~ Philippians 4:6

Also, if you want to learn more about strokes there is a great magazine out there that is FREE, go to: http://www.stroke.org/ and sign up. They provide a lot of information for victims, caregivers, friends and families.

August is here and almost gone!

Sorry there hasn’t been a post in over 2 weeks, time flies when you are having fun!

Week of 8/2:
Glenna Orr (a friend of my mom's) is here for the week from South Georgia to help us out. We are so grateful for her love and support to come up here (and for her good cooking!)
Tuesday – Our friend Kevin came over and cooked salmon and shrimp for us, it was really good. Wednesday – Before Walter went to therapy today he, my mom, Glenna, Jillian and Nish (co-worker of Jessica’s) had lunch at Cypress Cafe. We had a good time laughing, in fact Walter forgot he still had coke in his mouth and started laughing and it went everywhere and on everyone. It made us all laugh even harder. Nish was so encouraging to Walter in letting him know that he has come so far from the last time he saw him (which was back in May) and that he looks so good and healthy. Walters therapists continue to praise him for his hard work and determination during therapy.
Thursday – Jiyoung (student at Life w/Walter) brought Korean for dinner and gave Walter a relaxing massage, he enjoyed it so much he was sleeping and didn’t want to wake up for dinner!
Weekend – my mom brought Glenna home and to catch up on some loose ends back in Hahira. We thank Glenna for all of her help. Walter and I had another great weekend. We met Jiyoung for lunch, went shopping at Costco (one of Walters favorite stores) and did a lot of hanging out with each other. When weekends are quiet we catch up on our time together. Another friend of Walters was suppose to come and hang out but had something come up at the last minute and we would like to pray for him and his situation that God would lead him the right direction and give him strength.

Week of 8/9:
Monday – This week Samantha Peterson (my mom’s friend) is back up here to help us out. She has been an incredible support for us as well. She loves plants so she has some great ideas on redesigning our front yard (Walter and I both have black thumbs), she purchased several flowers for the yard that are beautiful (I’m not sure what they are). The ground in the front is currently all clay as my mom, Kevin, Aunt Katie and others helped to pull out the overgrown grass and weeds. I can’t wait to see what the final product will be. John Taylor and Bill Dodd (Walter’s brother in laws) came to visit. Bill talked about an old Snoopy (Walters favorite cartoon character growing up) that he won in school at Westbrook that he gave Walter many years ago that Walter still has in his bedroom in Quitman. They talked and laughed about old times and good memories. Walter also let Bill know that he was not happy with him about setting up the outside shower. He does not like it. I tell him to use it as a goal to work hard in therapy so that he can walk up our stairs soon to use his shower. Every night about 8 or 9pm he remembers that goal ;)
Tuesday – Dr. Taubin cut back on Walters medicines again as he did pretty well with the 1st round a week ago. Vicki & Elyssa came by to hang out and check on us. The Hickey family (co-worker of Jessica's) brought us a yummy dinner of baked ziti.
Wednesday – David (Samantha’s husband) brought Walters favorite dinner for everyone….Harry’s pizza. Of course we watched sports while eating pizza.
Thursday – Joanna and Bobby (Jessica’s sister and father) came in to town and we were all excited for our fun weekend together.
Friday – James (Jessica’s brother) came up from Augusta to go to the Braves game with all of us. We hung out with some of Jessica’s co-workers as well as Trey Bassford (a friend from Valdosta) at the game. At first Walter wanted to leave because it was too loud, I never realized how loud those games really are. But after he got his hotdog, coke and ice cream he became very content and was glad he stayed for the game. Thanks to David for the great tickets!

Visitation

We know a lot of you have asked when the best time to visit would be. Please send me an email jess3ck@yahoo.com or call my cell at 229-251-4441 and we will be happy to schedule a visit. During the week it is pretty hectic with getting Walter to and from therapies and/or doctors appointments. On his days off my mom helps him with her version of his therapies (I beleive it is a work out for the both of them). On weekends we try to do fun outings, lunch and relaxation with family and friends. Hope to hear from you soon!

Faith sees the invisible, beleives the incredible, and receives the impossible.

Wow we got through last week pretty smoothly with Bernice the caregiver. Walter also had an incredible week of therapy. Praise God!
Friday - I heard from Pathways and all the therapists agreed that he had the best week ever. He is getting so strong. His speech continues to progress. Lyn and John Taylor visited Walter for a little bit. Elyssa and Vicki came by at dinner time to share in the wonderful week of good news. We ordered Harry's pizza (Walters favorite - he asks for it just about every day) and then watched a movie on the couch together until midnight.
Saturday - This day was pretty boring actually. I shaved Walter's face and he said I did a great job. He says I can do it more often. I have never shaved a mans face before and a week long beard was not an easy task. Today we just hung around and enjoyed our time together.
Sunday - Walter wanted to get out and go to Game Stop, Corey (Jillian's friend) pushed him around as Jill (Jessica's sister) and I went to the grocery store. We went to lunch at Zaxby's then got icecream at Brusters. Walter got a kick out of Corey dancing us as we sat under the umbrellas while it rained, listened to 80s songs at Brusters and ate icecream (moose tracks is currently Walters favorite). A song by Prince came on - When Doves Cry and he likes that song. Mom King, Dad King, Uncle Mark and Glenna Orr came in to town. The guys brought us a used refrigerator as ours died last week. We never realized how many sauces we had....Walter is named the "sauce king".
Monday - Mom King (Jessica's mom) and her friend Glenna took Walter on a little outing for the day. Chic fil a for lunch and Sam's Club for groceries. Glenna cooked a wonderful dinner of Greek chicken pie; Walter ate 3 peices! His apetite is great. Walter now says the dinner blessing. A small sample off what he says: "Dear Lord, Thank you for making me better. Bless this food. Amen." Other nights the first word is Amen then he starts laughing. He is done and ready to eat. And we can't help but laugh with him. Gotta love him!

Hallelujah

Walter and I went home last weekend and had a wonderful time with family and friends. We did a lot of laughing, loving and relaxing. My parents friends Samantha and David have a cottage that is handicap accessible which worked out perfectly for us. We finally had some quiet time, just the two of us. We were able to sleep in the same bed together for the first time since the beginning of April. Sorry we were unable to see everyone but we hopefully can get together soon! My mom and Walters dad had the week off and went home to catch up on their lives. At first, I was really nervous by not having them here but it all worked out really well. We have had a caretaker here this week while I am at work, Bernice, who has been great. Between her and our friends we have managed to get through the week with therapy, dr’s appointments and meals. We truly have incredible friends that have been here for us and we are so thankful for them. Tuesday - Silka, Michelle and Erica flew in from Ohio and Dallas to visit with Walter and had him laughing so hard about some old memories. Wednesday- another amazing day, Walters caretaker called me and said his speech is so clear. She put him on the phone with me and he said “can you understand me?” My reply “oh my goodness baby, yes! This is awesome!” The doctor and therapists told me that some things will just click and others it will take longer to learn. I’ll take whatever I can get ;) Thursday - he had a swallow test and the dr said everything looks great and that next week his peg tube should come out.
